Acadêmicos da Ópera: a staple feature at Carnaval Brasileiro and Ruta Maya World Carnaval.

Acadêmicos da Ópera performs in Austin and throughout Texas on a regular basis. By far, the samba school's biggest and best performance has been Carnaval Brasileiro in Austin, Texas. Billed as possibly the largest Brazilian Carnaval party in the United States, nearly 6,000 partygoers in costume dance the night away at the Palmer Events Center in Austin every February.

The Samba School is also a regular at the Ruta Maya World Carnaval in Austin and the Fiesta Flambeau parade in San Antonio, Texas. Together with Las Monas Performance Company, we received the 2010 Flambeau Director's Award and came first in the "Best Marching Band" category! See more of what we do on our Media page.

Want to join us?

Acadêmicos da Ópera rehearses on Wednesdays from 7:30-9:30 pm. The Samba School owns all the Brazilian percussion instruments needed to supply a 40+ member bateria (drum section), so all you have to do is show up. Most veteran members have bought their own instrument (which makes practicing at home much easier).

If you would like to join, please e-mail Jacaré.
